My 2024 Ins and Outs – Adulting with Adwoa

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2024! If you’ve been on social media you have seen the “2024 Ins and Outs” trend. It has been so interesting to see what people are choosing to leave in 2023 and what they want to bring or embrace in 2024. I want to do my take on this trend but blog style and expand on my ins and outs.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Background on the 2024 Ins and Outs Trend

From my understanding, this trend came about from people doing some self-reflection on the past year(s) and realizing that certain actions, thoughts or things weren’t serving them and who they want to be in the future. Compiling this list seems easy enough but I think taking some time to really think about who your best self wants to be is crucial. It took me a few hours to compile my list and I still feel like it’s a work in progress but so far the things I stand behind all of the things I have written down.

If you don’t feel like reading all of my thoughts, I have linked my Instagram post with my list here!

My 2024 Ins

  1. Reading More Books
  2. Phone on DND and Protecting my energy
  3. Taking Messy Action – Do it Scared
  4. Getting Ready for My Day Daily
  5. Supporting more Local Businesses
  6. Getting 7+ hours of sleep
  7. Becoming a morning gym girlie
  8. Solo Dates
  9. Rocking my Natural Hair
  10. Putting Funds into a HYSA

Explaining my 2024 Ins

Some of the things on my list are pretty self-explanatory but for the ones that aren’t as obvious, I will be expanding on why these are important to me.

I have these things on my list because I realized I have been slacking on implementing these in my life and in 2024 that will be no more. Since graduating from university and even high school, to be honest I have been really slacking on the reading front. I read my textbooks but never really pulled out a book for fun but since 2023 I have been trying to do more reading for fun and education. Last year, according to my Goodreads, I only read 6 books…THAT’S SAD!

This year I am hoping to at least double it at the minimum and I am planning on reading at least one book a month which is so doable so I can’t wait for 2025 to update y’all on how that goes.

I find that getting ready for my day sets me up for success and then you pair that with being a morning gym girly, I will be unstoppable. Nothing on this earth beats the feeling of getting up early, doing your workout and not having to worry about how to fit it into the rest of your day. So getting my lift in, coming home, getting cute and then going about my day sounds heavenly to me.

Something I am choosing to continue to embrace is rocking my natural hair more. If you knew me before 2023 you would catch me rocking braids 80% of the time. The biggest reason is because I didn’t know how to deal with my hair and I lowkey kinda sorta didn’t like my hair. I decided to try experimenting with it more, AKA, colouring it and it has been the best thing I have ever done. I LOVE my hair now and I am considering going full red now instead of just having the red as highlights. So rocking my hair will not only be my 2024 in but most likely my forever in.

Lastly, putting my funds into a High Yield Savings Account (HYSA) is something I recently learned about from a local finance educator, Ellyce Fulmore. She has taught me so much about managing my finances through her content and she’s mentioned using a HYSA over a regular savings account because you earn more interest (who doesn’t like making more money??). Ellyce also has a book on managing your finances coming out soon so if you have the funds pre-order it! I personally use the Neo Financial HYSA*.

My 2024 Outs

  • Doom Scrolling
  • Putting other people first
  • External validation
  • Non-inclusive spaces
  • Limiting beliefs
  • Skipping the gym because I didn’t plan well
  • Ordering in constantly

Expanding on my 2024 Outs

So we just went over my 2024 Ins, let’s go over my 2024 outs. Again, like my ins, the list is pretty self-explanatory but there are a few points that I want to expand on.

As a lifelong people pleaser, I always find myself putting other people’s needs, wants, expectations, etc. ahead of my own and it made me pretty upset but now that is going to be a thing of the past. I do understand that this isn’t going to be something that changes overnight. I have been slowly putting in the work and it’s hard but I know that it will be worth it in the end. This kinda goes hand in hand with the external validation point.

When it comes to skipping the gym because I didn’t plan well, I used to tell myself I would go after work or after I completed a certain task. I would spend way too long on the task or on doing things that weren’t productive and push the gym off until the last possible second and then would end up not going (not cool Adwoa). But now that I am committed to becoming a morning gym girlie, this shouldn’t be an issue.

For my last Out of 2024, I really had to call myself out on my own BS. I order in a lot because the executive dysfunction is so real, especially lately. I have been forcing myself to cook more of my meals now and my wallet is so happy but there are times when I do have a bad craving for something or just feel too physically weak to drive to the place so I just order in.

One major revelation I have had since eating out so much more is that my body is so bloated and I find that my energy levels just aren’t where I need them to be either so Adwoa is going to be cooking more from now on 😤.
